He received his BSc (First Honors) from the Algerian Institute of Telecommunications (AIT), Oran, Algeria in 1992, his MSc in Electrical Engineering Department at KFUPM University in 1997 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Queen’s University of Belfast (QUB), Belfast, UK in 2005. Dr. Ghouti is an active member of the IEEE. He has several publications in the areas of Multimedia Security, Biometrics, Forensics and Homeland Security that appeared in International refereed Journals and Proceedings. He holds 24 US patents.

Seminar 2. On the importance of the Requirements Engineering

The requirements engineering is the first phase of any software development life cycle. It's the phase where the incomplete needs/goals of users are translated into a precise specification. The latter is used by developers and designers to produce the software. Consequently, any lack in the requirement phase will induce failure. This seminar will address the importance of requirement engineering and some key concepts along with some research directions.

Seminar 3. The transition from Software Requirements to Design

Software requirements and software design are two main process areas in any software development process. The first process focuses on capturing stakeholders needs and specify them in a clear, consistent, and correct manner and deliver them to the designers via a requirement document. Designers should design the software to implement the requirements specified in the requirement document. This seminar discusses how the requirements engineers translates the stakeholders’ needs expressed in natural language into models that can facilitates capturing the requirements and smoothly initiate the software design process and what problems are faced while doing so.

Seminar 8. Software Components Integration

In the past, integration was considered a “phase” in the software development lifecycle (SDLC) when code from different team members or different features were combined, after team members have worked separately on the different components of the application for weeks or months. Lately, integration has become a frequent activity, with developers integrating as often as possible, usually soon after a unit is complete. Continuous Integration (CI) is a method of avoiding the integration issues that typically occur when there are extended periods between developers integrating their work. In this talk we will go through the different practices and pitfalls of Continuous Integration.

Software Quality Assurance (SQA) is an umbrella activity that can be defined as a systematic approach to evaluating the quality of a software and is associated with software product standard, process and procedures. It is an ongoing process within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) that routinely checks the developed software to ensure it meets the desired quality measures. The most important part of SQA is software testing. It is a product-oriented activity where the basic idea is to execute a software and observe its behavior or outcomes. Software Quality Assurance and Testing is an integral part and highly important in software development. The absence or insufficient SQAT activities may lead to economic damages as well as catastrophic consequences. In this seminar, a review of the main activities in SQAT, challenges faced, and Testing pitfalls to avoid will be presented.

Seminar 10. SE499 Project Report and Demo

The SE499 course provides the students with a significant software development project experience in which they apply the knowledge that they learned in their courses for developing software. The students work through multiple phases such as requirements engineering, design and construction, implementation, deployment and quality assurance. By the time they reach this stage of the semester, their project implementation has completed and it’s time to document and present their work. This seminar will provide the students with an overview and guidelines of how to write their final reports with high quality. It will also provide details about the final presentation and examination in which the students will demonstrate their work to the examiners.

Seminar 11. An Overview of Software Quality Assurance and the ISO/IEC 29110

Very Small Entities (VSEs) are enterprises, organizations (e.g. public or non-profit organizations), projects or departments having up to 25 people. VSEs are very important to the worldwide economy. However, it has been established that VSEs often do not utilize existing systems and software engineering standards. To address the needs of VSEs, a set of international standards and guides, the ISO/IEC 29110 series, has been developed. The ISO/IEC 29110 series, such as the management and engineering guides, is targeted at VSEs developing software products or systems that are typically composed of hardware and software components. An overview of SQA and the ISO/IEC 29110 series will be presented to enable managers, customers, suppliers, developers and maintainers, auditors, SQA personnel, professors and students to motivate them in learning and applying Software Quality Assurance practices and the ISO/IEC 29110

The workshop demonstrated offensive and defensive security aspects in operational technology (OT) using an industrial emulator. The CEO of Abu dhabi based ATS Mr. Mohamad Abouniaj demonstrated the OT security solution for industrial security.
